Boosey & Hawkes Signs Sebastian Currier

Boosey & Hawkes is pleased to welcome Sebastian Currier to its unparalleled roster of distinguished composers. Effective July 1 Boosey & Hawkes will represent all future works and the majority of Currier's existing catalog. A small number of works will continue to be represented by Carl Fischer Music and European American Music Distributors LLC (EAM).Recipient of the prestigious Grawemeyer Award in 2006, Sebastian Currier represents the finest in American composition. He has also received many other awards including the Berlin Prize, Rome Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His orchestral works have been performed by the San Francisco Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the American Composers Orchestra, with a recorded performance available by the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra under conductor Hugh Wolff.
Currier's music has been enthusiastically embraced by violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, who commissioned and premiered his violin and piano piece Aftersong, and who has commissioned him to write a new concerto for violin and orchestra. Members of the Berlin Philharmonic dedicated a full evening to Currier's extensive chamber music output in October 2005, including the premieres of Remix for mixed ensemble and Crossfade for two harps. The following year Currier returned to Berlin for the premiere of Broken Minuets, performed by harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet and the Oriol Ensemble. New World Records has released the Cassatt Quartet's recording of Currier's string quartets (Quartetset and Quiet Time) which was rated Best of 2006 by The New Yorker.
Currier is currently composing a piece for panoramic video, electronics, and string quartet in collaboration the Ying Quartet, video artist Pawel Wojtasik, and Mass MoCA. A DVD of his 2005 multimedia work Nightmaze, based on the text of Thomas Bolt, is in production for release on Bridge Records. Looking ahead, his Group Dynamics for wind ensemble will receive its premiere at the University of Louisville in November 2008. Over the coming seasons Currier will again work with Anne-Sophie Mutter—this time writing a violin concerto which will receive its world premiere in New York City.
Currier taught at the Juilliard School from 1992-1998 and at Columbia University from 1999-2007.
